I too own a Lide 20 scanner. The drivers for the Lide 20 are NOT compatible with Windows 7 Home Edition; trust me I've tried everything. Different story if you have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, and have set up a Virtual XP Mode Virtual Drive (see Microsoft web site for details and how to download the files you need). Then you can install the Lide 20 drivers as before, because you have XP Pro SP3 running in a virtual window.
Just be mindful that the XP Mode is 16 bit colour only, so you'll need to transfer scanned images to the Win 7 program for editing. If you only have Win 7 Home Edition it would be far cheaper to just buy an new scanner (one that has Win 7 Drivers). Hope this helps. Peter Perros. Anyone out there nerdy enough to try this, my 12 year-old daughter recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a discarded old PC (an old AMD 3000+) with 1 meg of RAM that has essentially been keeping the dust off part of the garage floor since 2005.that it booted up is in itself a miracle, but there's more. She managed to load Ubuntu alongside the Windows XP operating system (this requires another program) and then loaded a program called Wine which apparently lets you run Windows software on Ubuntu. She has since loaded a raft of Windows software, including software for her iPod.
And guess what, she even got the Canon scanner working! Now I'm thinking if a 12 year-old can do this with a worthless old computer, why can' t Microsoft with their billions of dollars etc.? My daughter is available for consultations but only if she has competed her school homework! As an experiment, I bought a cheap new hard drive for my HP Pavilion DV6519TX laptop (removing the original hard drive to preserve the Vista partition, AVP, and programs etc), and installed Ubuntu 10.04 onto it from a fresh distro disk. And when I plugged in the Lide20 scanner it worked fine.
There is a generic applet for scanning that works universally on my Lide20, and on my Brother MFC-7440N and HP C7280 multifunction machines. SUGGESTION: At a pinch you should be able to boot up from a Ubuntu ISO CD (5 to 10 minutes), scan what you need, save it to a CD-RW or USB drive and then restart the PC back into glorious Windows 7. Your scanner ain't ever gonna work under Windows 7, but I reckon this is a cheap alternative that will allow you to keep your old hardware going a bit longer and stem the flow of old scanners ending up as landfill or appearing in 'ideal for students' ads. Cheers, Peter Perros Brisbane, Australia. Just use Windows Vista, forget about Windows 7, regardless of what the so called experts say, Cannon LIDE20, LIDE30 scanners will not work on Windows 7, they will however work on Windows Vista. No need to toss a good scanner just because Uncle Bill and the team can't get their ducks in a row. Ubuntu just booted off a live cd will recognize a sound card, scanner, digital camera, however Windows 7 will not.
But for You that still believe that Windows 7 is the greatest, well. The earth is flat and better not fall off.

Hi Abdul Sorry for not replying sooner but have had great difficulty in sourcing updated drivers for my scanner, it appears that Canon has made a decision not to update drivers for this product to work with Windows 10, and so it looks like my flatbed scanner (old model it may be) is to be confined to the scrapheap. They (Canon) would prefer I spend more money on their products by purchasing another of their appliances. Other posts and remedies have been pursued but to no avail. Thank you for your comments and interest in my problem.
I have actually had it working but under a clean install of Win10 (32bit). No luck under the 64 bit version though. However, subsequently I've wiped my installation and I can't get it working again. It appears as a device and the test function inside the driver works fine. However when I try to acquire an image it says there is no scanner installed. I have had this working properly though and have scanned photos perfectly fine.
It seems to hinge on getting the Canoscan driver installed, which it doesn't seem to like doing.

With a bit of work the Canon scanner works in W7 32 bit without issues. 64 bit is another problem altogether. A workaround I found (only works in Windows 7 Pro, Ultimate & Enterprise) was to set up XP mode, attach the scanner (USB devices in the XP mode menu), install the Canon software and 32 bit Windows XP driver and close down XP mode. In Windows 7 you can run the Canon toolbox in XP mode without having to load the entire XP operating system. This gives you the XP interface but most importantly, it works!
Hope this helps. If you have a canon lide 50 this is another way of making it work on windows 10 64bit boot in advanced mode that requires no signatures for drivers (look elsewhere on how to do this) DONT PLUGIN THE SCANNER 1. Download lide #60# win7 64bit drivers lide60vst6411111a64en- 2. Extract in folder you get a setupsg.exe file 3. Extract.exe file to a folder 4.
Now you have a – cnql60 folder b. Setupsg.exe 5.
Run setupsg.exe as administrator (might help if it works in compatibility mode for win7) add windowsTwain32CNQL60 to your%PATH% after a lot of installing and uninstalling i got it to work, even with scangear 4.9 but i dont think you need SG4.9 Sure it says canon lide 60 instead of 50 – but seriously, after 5 hours of trying to workaround this, who cares? =) I hope it will work for you, too.
